RAZSTAVA

Ah ja, imam eno foto razstavo v baru Pilon, na Prešernovi v Ljubljani, nasproti predsedstva RS. In moja prijateljica Lili mi je napisala tole:

Fotografske zapise Braneta Žalarja bi lahko poimenovali avtorjev spomin na svetove.

A katere svetove?

Fotografije so pozoren in izbrušen posnetek reprezentativnih arhitektur, ki jih je avtor srečeval na svojih poteh doma in po svetu. Pročelja topli bližina človeškega obraza. Gre za vedno isti red, v katerem je arhitektura fizična, obraz kot oseben podpis pa duhovna razsežnost. Na ta način podobe pridobijo čustveno in alegorično vrednost. So kot zamrznjeni trenutki časa in prostora, ki pokažejo kulturno vrednost doživetega. Obraz je tu prinašalec oziroma točka identifikacije z gledalcem.Te podobe so fragmentarne; le stežka bi jih uporabili kot identifikacijske kartončke posameznih mest ali dežel. A prav zaradi svoje fragmentarnosti dopuščajo govorico skupnega (kolektivnega) spomina. Gledalca vabijo na potep v realne in imaginarne svetove.

But which worlds?

Attentively and artfully the prints reproduce representative architectures, which the photographer recorded throughout his domestic travels or worldwide journeys. The façades acquire softer visage through close-ups of human faces. There’s always a sense of the same order, where the architecture is physical, and as a personal touch the face becomes a spiritual dimension. Thereby, the images are attached an emotional and allegoric value. Resembling moments and places frozen in time, they manifest the cultural value of experiences. Here, the face functions as a medium, i.e. the vehicle of identification with the viewer.The images are fragmentary; they could hardly serve as flash cards for various cities or countries. But it is precisely their fragmentary nature that allows the emergence of the common (collective) memory. They invite the beholder to enter their real or imaginary worlds.
